From then on we have gone from strength to strength totaling up a healthy mileage of over 400 km and being placed ninth in the 80 km ER at Cirencester. Since being barefoot we have never been asked to trot up twice for a panel of vets (something we did frequently while shod), in fact the vets are extremely curious about my little barefoot horse and how he manages so well.
I could write so much more about competing barefoot and the benefits it brings to the longevity of an endurance horse’s career so if you would like to talk to me about my experiences you can e-mail me at terrymadden54@yahoo.co.uk
These photos show the transformation of Abu’s hoof from contracted mess to open and healthy 50 mile hoof!
My first competitive ride was in April when we vetted with great anticipation at Carrside Farm and completed a successful 40 km.
This is one of Abu’s front hooves after the same ride. His trim is his own as all he needs from time to time is a roll to neaten the edges. Truly a self maintaining hoof!
