October 2006
Four weeks later we visited Jessica again to see how she had progressed. Amazingly she had been fine in her boots with pads, going to the field and hacking out in walk. She had not needed her boots in the field. Her right hoof still showed the damage from the pressure caused by the pads, which after four weeks was astounding and gave some indication of the trauma below to the internal structures. What she needed now however was time and the correct diet to grow a steeper dorsal angle on that hoof to shorten the toe and thus the heels.

November 2006 to February 2007
Over the next few months the changes in Jessica’s hoof were gradual but in the right direction. Her toe and heels shortened allowing the distribution of weight to be shifted back to give more support to the internal structures. Now the bulbs of her heel developed showing that inside the lateral cartilages and digital cushion were becoming healthier. She continued to be happy in boots but now only needed them on the fronts.
