Making a Paddock Paradise 5
In July 2007 and we ha a grass track extending on three sides of the 7 acre field. The horses had very restricted grazing and for three out of the four this amount of grass appeared to be fine. They were confident on their feet on a variety of surfaces.
For Fari however his feet became flat and his performance deteriorated. He became less able on stones and ultimately uncomfortable on roads.

Some horses are very sensitive to low levels of grass, particularly that growing on short cropped pastures. This grass contains more sugars and it seems some horses are less able to tolerated these sugars than others. If your horse loses performance over the spring months then try taking it off grass completely.

The middle of the field was growing our crop of haylage to feed to the horses during the following year.
The horses were still consuming haylage but were also obviously enjoying nibbling on the short sweet grass growing on the track.
