Our belief is that there are only tools to help heal hooves. In the majority of cases a rasp, nippers or a knife are the least important tools. Yet strangely they are the ones we talk about most and indeed reach for first. The most important tools must be diet, nutrition, and an over all holistic view which sees hooves as a barometer for the health of the whole body. Laminitis is a symptom of an imbalance caused else where in the body. The imbalance can be caused by many differing factors. In John’s case the imbalance was identified and could be corrected.
We look forward to adding photos to John’s story over the next few months to show how his feet change now the trigger for the laminitis has gone. For now here are his newly floated teeth!
It is horses like John which show Performance Barefoot how important it is to look at the holistic picture when creating strong tough bare hooves. It is horses like John who show how complicated a disease laminitis is. A trim alone could not solve John’s problems. To be honest there is not, in our opinion, one trim method in the world that will do that. Sadly there have been many claiming that it will.
