Jessica is a horse who we were very worried about de-shoeing. She had been diagnosed with coffin joint problems, navicular and side bone. She had had remedial farriery with wedges for a number of years and looking at her hooves it didn’t seem possible that she was going to be comfortable barefoot. The extent of the damage to her digital cushion caused by the pressure from the wedges must have been considerable. The right fore in particular was nothing else but a mess, which was far from a strong working hoof. Her owner Lynette decided that shoes were only causing more deformity to her already deformed hoof and decided very bravely to give barefoot ago. Armed with four boots she set about putting Jessica on the path to a better set of hooves.
